01 — About us

Who is INULPKR?

Our focus →

INDEPENDENT • INTERDISCIPLINARY • OPEN KNOWLEDGE

We turn urban questions into public knowledge and practical tools.

INULPKR started as a small mailing list of planners, geographers and activists exchanging scans of land-use plans. Today inulpkr.info is a living observatory: we combine GIS, sociology, ecology and design to answer one question — how can land serve communities better?

  • ✓Evidence first: every guide is backed by field counts, interviews and open data you can download.
  • ✓Streets, not shelves: we prototype benches, parklets, crossings and community gardens with residents.
  • ✓Commons oriented: all toolkits are free, multilingual and built for municipalities, NGOs and neighbours.

Our manifesto in one line:

No neutral land. Every square meter is a decision about who belongs, who breathes and who decides.

02 — Research focus

Six lenses on the city

From cadastral maps to children's play — we study land as ecology, economy and everyday life.

01Public Space & Commons

How squares, sidewalks and vacant lots become places of care. Audits, pattern books, co-design kits.

Public space with greenery and seating
02Land Policy & Housing

Land trusts, readjustment, vacancy taxes. Legal explainers that non-lawyers can actually use.

City housing at night with lights
03Urban Ecology & Heat

Tree equity, pocket forests, cool corridors. Sensor networks + satellite + street thermometers.

Map and data analysis for urban ecology
04Mobility & 15-min City

Walkability scores, school streets, cargo bikes. Measuring access, not just traffic.

Co-working and community planning office
05Participation & Data

Counter-mapping, citizen science, open dashboards. Communities as co-researchers.

Community street life and participation
06Resilience & Adaptation

Flood, drought, energy. Neighbourhood adaptation plans tested with games and drills.

04 — How we work

Observe → Map → Prototype → Share

01 Observe — Count what matters

Bench counts, shade walks, night safety audits, interviews in 5 languages. No city without feet on pavement.

02 Map — Make the invisible visible

Ownership, heat, access, stories. Interactive atlases that councils and kids can both read.

03 Prototype — Test cheap, learn fast

Paint, planters, pallets. 1:1 experiments evaluated with before/after data and joy metrics.

04 Share — Knowledge as commons

Guides, datasets, videos and train-the-trainer sessions. Everything CC-BY, everything practical.

What neighbours say

“The land audit kit did what three consultants couldn't — it got our street talking and mapping. Now we manage our courtyard ourselves.”

— Marta K., resident organizerCourtyard Commons, Block 14

“Finally research I can hand to a mayor. Clear maps, clear costs, clear next step. Cool Streets changed our budget priorities.”

— D. Okafor, city officerMobility & Green Dept.

“Students love it because it's real. We counted benches, interviewed elders, planted shade — and published data.”

— Prof. L. HaddadUrban Studio Partner

INULPKR team collaborating
What does INULPKR actually do? +
We research urban land and public space, publish open toolkits and co-design street interventions with residents and cities. Think half lab, half neighbourhood workshop.
Is all content free to reuse? +
Yes. Unless noted otherwise, texts, maps and guides on inulpkr.info are shared as knowledge commons for non-commercial civic use with attribution to INULPKR.
How can our city or NGO collaborate? +
Start with the Land Audit Kit or Cool Streets method, run a pilot, then invite us for training, evaluation or co-design. Use the contact form below with “collaboration” in the subject.
Do you work with residents without planning background? +
Absolutely — that's our core audience. All methods are visual, multilingual and tested with teenagers and elders. No jargon, lots of maps and hands-on steps.
Where does your data come from? +
Field counts, municipal open data, satellite imagery, low-cost sensors and citizen science. We document sources and limits in every publication.
